Full Duplex - Half Duplex

Settingan duplex mode ternyata ngefek juga ke transfer rate suatu server. Settingan yang berbeda antara switch dan server bisa mengakibatkan transfer rate jadi rendah.

Seperti minggu kemarin, backup yang biasanya selesai dalam 10 menit, jadi selesai dalam 5jam, bahkan 13 jam huhuhu...
Setelah dicek, ternyata settingan di server berubah jadi half_duplex. Mungkin efek dari upgrade ke mesh network seminggu sebelumnya, akibatnya settingan di switch dan ethernet card yang digunakan berbeda. Komunikasi tetap bisa berjalan, tetapi rate nya lambat.
Solusinya 2-2nya disamakan settingannya. Switch di half-duplex atau server di full-duplex. Dan pilihan yang tentunya kita ambil adalah force link nya ke full_duplex mode semua.
Yang paling penting untuk force ini adalah eksekusi script berikut:

ndd -set /dev/hme instance 1 -- untuk hme1 atau 2 untuk hme2
ndd -set /dev/hme adv_100fdx_cap 1 -- force ke full duplex
ndd -set /dev/hme adv_100hdx_cap 0
ndd -set /dev/hme adv_autoneg_cap 0 -- disable autonegotiate

Dengan eksekusi script di atas, settingan ethernet sudah berubah menjadi full-duplex.
Tetapi perubahan ini hanya terjadi sementara. Agar setiap kali di reboot station tetap menggunakan mode full-duplex, script tersebut harus dijalankan setiap reboot. Cara yang kami lakukan kemarin adalah menyimpan script tsb menjadi /etc/rc2.d/S18forcehme

Berikut script yang bisa digunakan untuk mengecek status link:

ndd -get /dev/hme link_speed
0 for 10 Mbps
1 for 100 Mbps

ndd -get /dev/hme link_mode
0 for Half-Duplex mode
1 for Full-Duplex mode

It formats a local time/ date as follow:

d - The day of the month (from 01 to 31)
D - A textual representation of a day (three letters)
j - The day of the month without leading zeros (1 to 31)
l (lowercase 'L') - A full textual representation of a day
N - The ISO-8601 numeric representation of a day (1 for Monday through 7 for Sunday)

U - The seconds since the Unix Epoch (January 1 1970 00:00:00 GMT)

* klo sering khilaf belanja, persiapkan juga angkutan barang buat balik nya.
